Joe and Lizzie's Family

The Price Brothers and Building the Beach

A Zoom Talk on June 1

The Beach & East Toronto Historical Society has asked me to give another talk about the Price family’s contribution to the development of the Beach. It will cover the much of the same ground as the first talk, in October of 2019, but will include some new material that I didn’t have then.

The talk will take place, using Zoom , from 7:00 to 8:30 pm on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. When the time comes, use this Zoom link to join us.

The photo in the poster is one that I didn’t have and wasn’t aware of at the time of the first talk. It’s in the possession of one of my Price cousins, and shows Earl and Leslie at their father’s sign painting shop sometime around 1911.

Blowing up the middle of the photo to highlight the two brothers, my first reaction is that the young Leslie Price is an amazing Matt Damon lookalike!

Leslie is identifiable from his iconic bowler hat (still in the family’s possession). I am convinced that the other is Earl based on comparison to other photos of him later in life. Besides, who else – if not the two brothers – would take centre stage in the company photo? They’re both in their early twenties.
