First Generation<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Helen Elizabeth Leslie (“Lizzie”) was born in Elzevir Township, in Hastings County, Ontario (then called “Canada West”) on February 6, 1882. Elzevir Township is near Belleville. Her parents were William Leslie (1822\u20131904) and Flora McDonnell Campbell (1829\u20131905). Both families were of Scottish ancestry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She married Joseph Price<\/a> (“Joe”) in Belleville on March 31, 1884, probably in Saint Andrew’s Presbyterian Church<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They had five children:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lizzie was an accomplished concert cornetist who, in the 1890s, soloed to much acclaim at a number of prestigious venues in Toronto, including the then-new Massey Hall<\/a>. She was billed as “Mrs. Price” or “Mrs. Helen Price.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Read more about her musical career in the post, Fact-Checking Two Stories about Lizzie Price’s Musical Career<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lizzie died in Toronto on September 8, 1917, at the age of 55, and is buried at St. John’s Norway Cemetery in Toronto.
